A Drone Arrives

Today we were very lucky, Anzac Leaf brought his drone into the school and showed us how it worked. It was amazing. It flew high and the blades were like a helicopter's blade, rotating very quickly. As the drone prepared to land on the grass, the grass swayed from side to side, just like when a helicopter lands on the grass. He took some amazing pictures of us and the school. Then he took a small group of seniors up to Lake Omapere to capture some shots as part of their Mountain to the Sea Inquiry.

Here is a shot of our school. Isn't it amazing.

  1. Kia ora,
What an opportunity you have had seeing a drone in action! I went to a rugby game at Albany Stadium in Auckland to watch the Blues play and kept hearing a strange noise... I realised it was a drone flying above us to capture some different views for Sky Sport! Did you know Fastway Couriers in Auckland trialled delivering parcels with drones - check out the YouTube clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHX2qo0P7gY - Would love to hear what you think of that idea.

    1. Kia Ora Tania,
We think this would be a great idea as it got there faster than the van because the van got stuck in traffic. However we think the van would be better as it is safer than flying it on the drone. We have mixed views on which one would be better. Thank you for the lovely comment and video link.

  2. Hi Room1
Wow! you are a lucky class. Mr Ritchie is very jealous of Room 1. He would love to see a drone, he would love to own one. I will be looking forward to seeing your pictures. Why did the seniors go to Lake Omapere?

    1. Kia Ora Mrs Ritchie,
Thank you for your lovely comment. The seniors went to Lake Omapere for their study on the Lake. This helped with their understanding of where the lake flowed through and how big it was.
